Hello and welcome to this article about installing WordPress plugins. If you have stumbled upon this post from Gawd knows where, you may be interested to know that this is from a series of articles from a Kindle eBook called, “How to Set Up a WordPress Website from Scratch.” If you would prefer to buy the book to make life easier, feel free to download it by clicking the image below.
I have done a video for this chapter on installing WordPress plugins that includes all the information below. If you want to watch the video, you can do so here. Please note that it is quite long so you may want to grab yourself a cuppa. So, first of all, you can install WordPress plugins in one of two ways.
You can use the links below to get to the plugin’s WordPress page. When you are there, you will see a blue download button. Click on it and save the plugin to a dedicated folder for plugins.
Once you have downloaded the plugin, you can then upload it to your site. Click on ‘Add New’. At the top of the page, you will see another button saying ‘Upload Plugin’. Click on that button and the plugins you can see will move down the page.
Now, click on the ‘Choose File’ button and navigate to the plugin you downloaded from WordPress. Once you have chosen it, you’ll see a button saying ‘Install Now’. Finally, you’ll be taken to a new page with a blue ‘Activate Plugin’ button. Click on that and once the plugin has been activated, you’ll be taken to the page with all the plugins. You can then just repeat the process for each new plugin you need to install.
You’ll be glad to know that there is an easier option to the one above. Type in the name of each plugin below. As with the Contact Form 7 plugin, the plugin you need will automatically appear in the plugins panel.
Be careful. Sometimes plugins have very similar names. I have added the name of the plugin maker below as well. That way, as long as you are reasonably careful, you should always install the correct one.
Once you have found the correct plugin, click on the ‘Install’ button. Once it’s finished installing, click on ‘Activate’ and you will get automatically get taken to the plugins pages. Personally, I would go for Option 2 if I were you. It’s a heck of a lot quicker and easier.
Right, now we have talked about how to install plugins, let’s look at the essential WordPress plugins I want you to install.
